Friday, April 5, 1935 THE BERWYN NEWS 5 REHNSTROMS CELEBRATE 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Thirty friends and business associates of Mr. and Mrs. David Rehnstrom, 3308 Highland avenue, helped them celebrate their silver wedding anniversary at their home Tuesday, March 26. In the afternoon the guests were entertained with cards, bunco and games. Prizes for the various games were awarded to Mrs.

M. Jones, Nell Bagg, Margaret Rinehart, Charles Jones, E. S. Pantton, and Al Steier. A delightful dinner was served the group at seven o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Rehnstrom were married in Chicago and have been residents of Berwyn, living at their present address for the past twenty-three years. Many lovely gifts and congratulatory messages were received by this couple during the course of the day. Mrs.

Arthur Russell, sister of Mrs. Renhstrom, surprised them with a lovely party at her home the Sunday preceding the anniversary. -0-0-- OAK PARK AVE. BAPTIST LADIES AID The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Aid society of the Oak Park Avenue Baptist church was held Thursday, April 4. During the social hour refreshments were served by Mrs.

Chas. Nelson and Mrs. Robert Carlson. The Evening Circle will meet Friday evening, April 12, at the home of Mrs. G.

Larson, 3242 Wesley avenue. Miss Nan Widell will be hostess. Plans are being discussed for a bake sale to be held later in the month. Five years ago Mr. Stark and his family came to Berwyn to make his home at 2616 Clarence avenue.

His wife passed away on December 8 last. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marie Nilles, and by five sons: Frank, John, Carl, Fred, and Emil Stark; one brother, Michael Stark, of Berwyn also survive. There are five grandchildren. The deceased was born in Austria June 15, 1872, and came to this country in 1902.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and since coming to Berwyn was a faithful member of Concordia church. Pastor W. H. Grothman officiated at the funeral service, basing his sermon on St. Mark 13, 35-37.

Interment was made in Concordia cemetery. DOROTHY JACKSON PARMER DIED AT SOUTHERN HOME Following an illness of some duration Mrs. Dorothy Jackson Parmer passed away at her home at Saluda, N. Monday, April 1. Word was sent to Berwyn where the many hundreds of friends of this, popular young lady were shocked to learn the news.

Mrs. Parmer was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jackson, 3512 Grove avenue, and had spent her childhood days in Berwyn and grew up much beloved by all who knew her. She was a leader in the younger set at the time of her marriage to Oscar Parmer, following which event she moved to the south, eventually making her home in Saluda.

There are two small children, a boy and a girl, besides the father and husband. Funeral services were conducted yesterday (Thursday) at Saluda, although it is expected the body will be brought to Berwyn at some future date. JOHN D. LOWERY DEAD FROM CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES John D. Lowery, 6542 Fairfield avenue, was found slumped in his car in the garage at the rear of his house early Wednesday afternoon dead from inhaling the deadly fumes of carbon monoxide gas.

The ignition switch of the car was turned on and the gas tank empty when the body was found. Mrs. Lowery, who has been confined to her bed for some time because of illness, said her husband had left the house to get the car to go to work at the Western Electric where he has held a position of division superintendent for some years. A neighbor noticed a light burning in the garage and the police were notified. An inquest was conducted Thursday morning at the Schubert undertaking etablishment at which time a verdict of accidental death was arrived at. STANLEY HOLMES DIED AT HOME IN NEW JERSEY Stanley S. Holmes, 54, one of Berwyn's old time residents, died at his home in Maplewood N.

Sunday, March 31. Mr. Holmes, who was a vice president of the Western Electric Company, was born in Plymouth, coming to Chicago at an early age. He became associated with the Western Electric company in 1900 as an apprentice in the Clinton street shops. He was transferred to New Jersey in 1927 to become manager of the Kearney, N.

plant. Mr. Holmes will be remembered as being both interested and active in civic affairs of Berwyn and Riverside, having served as president of the village of Riverside at one time. At the time of his death he was president of the Newark, N. chamber of commerce, vice president of the Jersey City chamber of commerce, chairman of the New Jersey state housing authority, and president of the Jersey City council of the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter and three sons. WILLIAM MERZ -0-0-- PERSHING PARENT- TEACHER William Merz, 3418 Kenilworth avenue, for many years an executive at the Western Electric Co, and who has been spending part of the winter at Coral Gables, died there Wednesday night. He was a member of Berwyn Masonic Lodge. Mrs. Merz is expected to arrive in Berwyn with the body Sunday, until which time information as to funeral arrangements is lacking.

The election of officers will be the main business at the Pershing Parent-teacher Association meeting next Tuesday evening, April 8, at 8:00. J. K. White, the principal, will show a two reel movie and demonstrate the machine. Refreshments will be served.
